Looking Forward to Summer

Five more weeks of our academic year (Oregon's public colleges are on the quarter system) and then freedom for a while! I'm eager to hit the road again and wrap up this phase of my Lewis and Clark research. Amazingly, there are still some important sites I either haven't yet visited (with an eye to how things are being interpreted and portrayed to the public, anyway) or that I need to revisit and document. These include the Three Forks area in Montana, the Two Medicine site on the Blackfeet Rez, and several sites and museums in Washington state.

Highway 28
Idaho's state highway 28, named for Sacajawea, beckons to the traveler south of Salmon.

I also know that there have been some new statues and other commemorative works installed here and there along the trail, and I want to try and visit a few of those, too.

Beargrass
Beargrass near Garnet, Montana, a ghost town that is now a BLM historic area. I'll be writing about Garnet soon on Pick and Shovel.

I hope readers will be patient with me as I complete the last weeks of spring term before I can get back into "museuming" and thinking about what sorts of post-bicentennial ideas I might present here on Trail Watch.
