A New National Park

We now have a new national park commemorating Lewis and Clark on the west coast: the Lewis and Clark National Historical Park, which expands the Fort Clatsop site in Oregon near the mouth of the Columbia River to include several other sites on both the Oregon and Washington sides. Fort Clatsop is the expedition’s 1805-06 winter encampment. In addition, the Heritage Museum in Ilwaco, Washington, just opened a new exhibit on Lewis and Clark “kitsch,” featuring hundreds of L&C merchandise items that people have collected and offered for display in the exhibit.

I will be visiting that area in the near future, but until then, here is a feature story from Oregon Public Radio about the park and the museum: Museum Explores Lewis and Clark Kitsch.
